Super Jail Coming Near You?
There may
be a super-prison built in London to hold more than 2000 prisoners. The idea
was put across by the Ministry of Justice. This would replace 6 prisons around
the area and would apparently save £63million a year. Justice Secretary Chris
Grayling said: “We have to bring down the cost of our prison system. But I
never want the courts to be in a position where they cannot send a criminal to
prison because there is no place available.”

Police Chase Ends in Death of Teenager
A
13-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene of a car crash after a police
chase. A Peugeot 308 was being pursued by an unmarked police car which had its
flashing lights and sirens on. The 308 then crashed into a Volkswagen Polo. The
parents of the girl, who were in the polo, went to hospital but had no serious
injuries. The driver of the 308 was taken into custody and his passenger was
taken to hospital with minor injuries. Devon Mewell aged 32 from Peckham in London has now been taken to court,
charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by
dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, failing to stop at the scene of

Drop in Police Numbers
The number
of officers employed by the Metropolitan Police has dropped to 30,939, after
being cut by the Home Secretary Theresa May and the Mayor of London. Boris
Johnson’s aides admitted that police numbers had fallen but insisted they were
still above the level he inherited five years ago of 30,659 warranted officers.
