Indecent Images of Children and Extreme Images

Nearly 100,000 indecent images were found on an ex-scout leader’s computer. Peter Murphy pleaded guilty to five charges of making and possessing indecent images at Peterborough Crown Court. Mr Murphy had more than 94,000 images of children from babies to teens and extreme images. He received a year imprisonment which was later reduced to 10 months by Judge Enright. He will normally serve half of this sentence. Miss Sarah Read appeared for the Defendant, instructed by our expert Andrew Parker of HSandCo.

PC Facing Bird

649 rare bird’s eggs were stolen from their nests by a police constable, apparently often when on duty for Suffolk police. At first PC Michael Upson blamed his father for collecting the hundreds of eggs before the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 came into effect. He showed officers index cards suggesting that the eggs belonged to E G Upson and that they had been collected in the 1940s. However, the police and the RSPB were not convinced and hidden in a water tank in the loft they found a sealed box containing the real cards and notebooks. The maximum sentence for collecting wild bird eggs is six months imprisonment. The officer is due to be sentenced on Thursday.

Cuts to Knife Crime?

David Cameron has signalled that there will no longer be cautions for people carrying knifes. 1 in 5 people convicted of carrying a knife get a caution.  He thinks the punishment is too lenient for being armed with a knife and he wants to toughen up against knife crime. Or is this just one more political sound  bite from the Coalition? Just like the "short, sharp shock."
