May the Force be with you

A blind man was tasered by a police officer when his white stick was apparently mistaken for a sword. The officer had several reports of a man walking around with a samurai sword and saw the blind man. He is said to have asked the man to stop, he failed to do so and the officer discharged his taser. The man was traumatised by the events. The Chorley Police Force apologised for the mistake made and are investigating to understand what lessons can be learned. The suspected man with the samurai sword was arrested later that day on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

Cold Case DNA

PC Keith Blakelock was a police officer who was murdered during the Broadwater Farm riots in Tottenham 27 years ago. DNA evidence might now find out who the killer was after using modern scientific techniques. Scotland Yard analysed PC Blakelock’s flame-retardant overalls and more than a dozen murder weapons as part of an ongoing cold case review of the crime. Scotland Yard are apparently just weeks away from bringing charges against a man who was under 18 at the time of the murder. HS&Co have experience in representing suspects on historic or cold cases. We often utilise our own forensic experts in the preparation of cases. In Your Defence.

Cop Out

A police officer in Yorkshire falsely claimed her daughter had cancer and various other life threatening diseases to get time off work. She claimed her daughter had to have chemotherapy for her condition and missed shifts due to this. Meanwhile, her daughter was taking part in show jumping events. The offences relate to the period between 1 January 2009 and 10 October last year when Hewitt was a constable with North Yorkshire Police. She pleaded guilty to fraud and misconduct in public office earlier this year at Hull Crown Court and was jailed for 18 months. Jailing Hewitt, the judge said: "Your actions have undermined the trust the police officers place in each other and they will no doubt undermine, to some extent at least, the trust members of the public place in the police.”

Sex Exploitation in a Town Near You

There are several gangs, of both boys and men, who have been sexually assaulting girls as young as 11. The gangs have used blackberry messenger to summon each other to these gang rapes. Children’s watchdog Sue Berelowitz said: “As one police officer leading a big investigation in a lovely, leafy part of the country told me, there isn’t a town, village or hamlet in which children are not being sexually exploited.” In one case, a young girl was repeatedly raped over several days by boys aged 14 and 15. The mobs use internet chat rooms to lure the young girls posing as friends. Some of the men filmed 2 of the boys having sex to use as blackmail to get them to lure girls for the men to rape.
