A blind man
was tasered by a police officer when his white stick was apparently mistaken
for a sword. The officer had several reports of a man walking around with a
samurai sword and saw the blind man. He is said to have asked the man to stop,
he failed to do so and the officer discharged his taser. The man was
traumatised by the events. The Chorley Police Force apologised for the mistake
made and are investigating to understand what lessons can be learned. The
suspected man with the samurai sword was arrested later that day on suspicion
of being drunk and disorderly.
