One of the ringleaders of last Summer's riots has had his four year sentence upped by the Court of Appeal to seven years.
The
process is that the Crown Prosecution Service, aka the CPS, refers
what they consider an unduly lenient sentence to the Attorney General
who then reviews the case. If the Attorney feels that it is unduly
lenient than he can refer the matter to the Court of Appeal for their
decision.
This is an increasing aspect of the HS&Co Criminal Law sentencing advice remit.
We
should point out that we did not represent Adam Ahmadzai however. He
had been caught throwing missiles at the police in London Road, Croydon
on August 8, 2011 and robbing a bus driver. Also, targeting a man and
his wife at a bus stop together with other offences. He later burgled
bookmakers in Thornton Heath, Surrey. In total, he pleaded guilty to:
Violent disorder, four counts of robbery, three counts of burglary and two counts of criminal damage.
Ahmadzai came from Feltham, Middlesex.
HS&Co
feel that the Court of Appeal is sending out a strong message to those
who might contemplate public disorder on the scale of last year's riots.
We have also dealt with cases resulting from the scenes of mass
disturbance.
Any defendant now up before a crown court judge on
similar serious matters can expect to face a lengthy time in Jail.
However, HS&Co are available to assist defendants and attempt to
mitigate the sentence. We have vast experience in these type of cases.
'In Your Defence' - it's what we do.
